PlayNitride plans to reduce microLED chip prices by 95% within 5 years

PlayNitride says that in order to meet mass production goals, microLED chip prices will have to be reduced drastically. The company aims to reduce the production cost of microLED chips by 95% within five years.

PlayNitride's CEO, Charles Li, says that the main challenge right now is to reduce the cost and size of microLED chips. In addition microLED makers will have to integrate the entire supply chain - from LED wafer production and process to transfer technology, backplane production and display module fabrication. Good technologies are available for all these steps, but integration is now key.
Charles also updates that the company aims to raise $50 million this year to accelerate both R&D and production capabilities.
PlayNitride is a leading microLED technology developer, with a long list of partners including SamsungCSoTTianMaRiTDisplayAUO and others.

STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN EYEVIS AND UNILUMIN

20.01.2016 – LED displays: Strategic partnership between eyevis and Unilumin promotes development of high-quality indoor LED walls

eyevis and Unilumin, the Chinese manufacturer of LED displays, have announced their cooperation, fittingly in the forerun of ISE. “With our strategic partnership for development and distribution, we supplement eyevis’ vast expertise with Unilumins high-quality manufacturing of LED modules. This is a win-win situation for everyone, in particular though for our customers,” Hartmut Weinreich, eyevis’ product manager for LED solutions, comments on the new cooperation. The development departments of Unilumin and eyevis had already successfully worked closely together in the past.

SILICONCORE UNVEILS THREE NEW KEY TECHNOLOGIES

SiliconCore Technology (SCT), a leading innovator in LED displays, is proud to announce three new technologies that enhance the company’s pioneering Common Cathode architecture.
The first technology is a new SCL8080 LED driver chip, which culminates a 2.5 year development cycle. This new generation driver now powers 640 pixels per chip, a benchmark that represents a doubling in the scan rate, a four-fold increase in processing speed and a five-fold increase in pixel processing per driver.
The second key enhancement is a new Precision Current Pump (PCP). Each LED printed circuit board (PCB) can inherently possess small variations in impedance for each LED pixel, so this technology compensates for the variations — ensuring complete integrity in every light pulse from each pixel. The result is a dramatic improvement in low-brightness performance.

SILICONCORE DEMONSTRATES 0.95MM LED DISPLAY TECHNOLOGY AT ISE 2016

Common Cathode LED manufacturer SiliconCore will showcase the smallest LED pixel pitch display
yet — a 0.95mm prototype. At ISE 2016, this technology demonstration will be held at booth 10-
K110, from 9th - 12th February at the RAI in Amsterdam.
SiliconCore’s 0.95mm LED prototype brings the benefits of very fine pixel pitch displays to
applications requiring extremely close proximity viewing. The display features superb contrast ratio
and gray scale qualities, with the ability to achieve 2000 nits in brightness. 4K resolution is achieved
at 165” diagonal and optimum viewing can be experienced at less than one meter.
