SILICONCORE UNVEILS THREE NEW KEY TECHNOLOGIES

SiliconCore Technology (SCT), a leading innovator in LED displays, is proud to announce three new technologies that enhance the company’s pioneering Common Cathode architecture.
The first technology is a new SCL8080 LED driver chip, which culminates a 2.5 year development cycle. This new generation driver now powers 640 pixels per chip, a benchmark that represents a doubling in the scan rate, a four-fold increase in processing speed and a five-fold increase in pixel processing per driver.
The second key enhancement is a new Precision Current Pump (PCP). Each LED printed circuit board (PCB) can inherently possess small variations in impedance for each LED pixel, so this technology compensates for the variations — ensuring complete integrity in every light pulse from each pixel. The result is a dramatic improvement in low-brightness performance.

Futuresource Consulting has continued its decade long study and released the fifth edition of the global videowall report which explores the adoption rates of technologies in the tiled display market. This report continues to build on its heritage tracking the established technologies of rear projection cube (RPC) and super narrow bezel (SNB) but focuses more keenly on the narrow pixel pitch LED (NPP LED) category which is gaining real traction and moving in to be a serious contender in this space.
From a macro perspective the report found that the videowall market reached 536,000 units in 2014, 19% growth on 2013 (RPC & SNB). This growth was driven by SNB, which grew at 22%. Futuresource Consulting also found that NPP LED stood out, with a rapidly changing competitive landscape and increasing momentum in verticals such as retail, public display and broadcast. Activity in the control room space, an important value niche, has largely been limited to China where State/Government projects have given it a strong foothold.

San’an Opto Most Profitable Among Survey of 14 Chinese LED Manufacturers

As of Aug. 21, 2015, 14 Chinese manufacturers have released their financial results for the first half of 2015. Some have become more profitable, while others have continued to incur heavy losses. LEDinside takes a closer look into these companies financial performance.

Most manufacturers debt ratio fall between 25% to 40%

Of the 14 manufacturers surveyed, 10 companies debt ratio fell in the 25% to 40% range. However, it could be noted that Silan Microelectronics and Yankong Lighting’s debt ratio increased, while Kennede Electronics (Kennede) and Linyang Electronics debt asset ratio was in the lower range.

However, there were a couple of exceptions. Suzhou Dongshan Precision Manufacturing (Dongshan Precision), reported the highest debt ratio of 62.57% during first half of 2015. Despite revenues and net profits climbing up to 27.43% and 143.51% respectively, the company debt continued to pile up. Other manufacturers in a similar situation included Unilumin and Lianchuang Optoelectronic Science and Technology (Lianchuang), which respectively respectively reported debt ratios exceeding 50% and 40%.

In comparison, Aoto Electronics and LEDman had the lowest debt ratio of 17.19% and 14.45% respectively.

A company’s debt ratio should not be too high or too low, and tends to vary across industries. However, manufacturers might be able to restore their debt ratio through their capital operations.

Huge differences in LED display gross margin, Auckson Opto delivers lowest performance

In general, LED lighting applications had the highest gross margins during the first half of 2015, and there were minor differences in gross margins. Unilumin gross margin reached 34.61%, but Auckson Opto’s gross margin was a mere 20.21%.

In the upstream LED chip market, San’an Opto claimed top spot with its LED gross margin of 44.41% for the first half of the year, up 7.30% compared to 2014.

Additionally, Guangdong Wuchuan Hongtai Sugarcane Chemical Equipment, which has a LED subsidiary, saw its gross margin fall to a mere 0.14%, while Dongshan Precision, Kennede, and Lianchuang’s gross margin was also in the lower point of 12.90%, 15.22% and 14.31% respectively.

Unilumin LED Profit YoY Growth of 140%

Recently, the mid-term report of listed LED display companies have been released .In the first half of 2015, Unilumin Group reached 625million RMB gross revenue, increased by 40.01% over the same period last year, and gross profit increased by 126.65% in the same period of time.

According to the report, Unilumin Group overseas sales profits increased by 57.50% over the same period last year; One of the most important reasons is the rapid increasing market share of “LED Super TV”. In the first half of 2015, “LED Super TV” contributes 26.88% of total profits, increased by 113.01% over the same period last year.

Taiwan, China to see LED Chip Sector Consolidation, Says Epistar President

Due to increasingly intense competition, Taiwan-based LED chip makers are expected to be consolidated into 1-2 makers and so will China-based fellow makers, according to president Jou Ming-jiunn for Taiwan-based LED epitaxial wafer and chip maker Epistar.

In addition, only 5-6 LED chip makers will survive in the global market, Jou said.

While the LED backlighting market has reached saturation, demand for LED lighting is still growing, Jou said. But product prices have been falling, with LED light bulb pricing having dropped 40-50% so far in 2015, he indicated.

As international vendors are designing new LED lighting products for launch in March 2016, Epistar expects shipments of low- to mid-power LED chips and COB (chip on board) devices to significantly increase starting from December 2015 through February 2016, Jou said.

For LCD TV backlighting, Epistar expects demand for flip-chip LED devices based on CSP (chip-scale package) to increase in 2016, Jou noted.
